We checked the hives for varroa mites. To do this you catch about 300 bees and put them in a screen covered jar with confectionery sugar. You shake the bees to cover them with the sugar, then shake the sugar onto a paper plate and count the mites. If there are too many mites, you have to treat the hive. After counting you return the bees to the hive.
